On April 7th, at the Jewish temple Temple Emeth in Brookline (link), Professor Chiharu Inaba of the Department of Urban Science at Meijo University, currently visiting Boston, delivered a lecture titled "Refugees Rescued in 1939-41 by the Lithuanian Government, Chiune Sugihara, and the US Jewish Funds." The event was co-hosted by the Consulate-General of Japan and the American Jewish Committee (AJC) New England Chapter. Consul General Takahashi attended and delivered opening remarks.

On this occasion, the Town of Brookline adopted a commemorative resolution marking the 125th anniversary of the birth of Chiune Sugihara and officially designated April 7th as a day of remembrance in honor of Chiune Sugihara (link).

The lecture was attended by members of the local Japanese community, representatives of the Jewish community, and officials from the Town of Brookline. It provided an opportunity to deepen understanding of the legacy of the Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara, who issued the so-called "Visas for Life" to save the lives of many Jewish refugees during World War II.
