J-NEXUS Annual Reception (Sep 1, 2026)- accelerating Japan-U.S. Innovation Cooperation

On September 1, Consul General Takahashi hosted the second annual reception of "J‑NEXUS: Japan‑New England Nexus for Innovation"—the Consulate General of Japan in Boston's initiative to further promote exchanges between Japan and the New England region in the fields of economy, science and technology—taking the opportunity of the opening of the Boston office of the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) on the same day.
 

The reception brought together approximately 100 participants from a wide range of sectors across government, academia, and industry, including Dr. Hitoshi Nakagama, President of AMED; Mr. Nobuo Kiriyama, President of JETRO New York; Mr. Timothy Rowe, Founder and Executive Chair of the Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC); Dr. Johannes Fruehauf, Founder and Chairman of BioLabs; researchers and representatives from MIT, Harvard University, Tufts University, UMass Lowell, WPI, and Dartmouth College; and officials from Japan-affiliated government organizations including NEDO. Participants engaged in lively exchanges throughout the evening. 
 

In his remarks, Consul General Takahashi looked back on approximately eight months of progress since the launch of J‑NEXUS in February of this year, highlighting the publication of the "J‑NEXUS Quarterly" (the third issue, released in late August, features contributions from Professor Shimon Sakaguchi of Osaka University, recipient of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, and Professor Teruo Fujii, President of the University of Tokyo, among others), the expansion of the New England-based Japanese Principal Investigators (PI) List to nearly 60 names, and the hosting of events in Connecticut, at the Museum of Science Boston, and in the field of quantum technology. He also welcomed the opening of AMED's Boston office and the appointment of the new JETRO New York President, expressed his commitment to further advancing the collaborative foundation built together with these strong partners, and unveiled a new J‑NEXUS logo as a fresh symbol of Japan‑U.S. innovation collaboration.
