On March 19, Consul General Takahashi hosted “WASHOKU: A Japanese Food & Beverage Showcase,” a reception promoting Japanese agricultural, forestry, fishery, and food products. Approximately 160 attendees participated, including local government officials, representatives from the seafood industry, food business operators, and members of the restaurant and hotel sectors.

The reception was organized to introduce the high quality, safety, and diversity of Japanese food and beverage products to visitors of “Seafood Expo North America 2026,” the largest seafood trade show in North America, held in Boston from March 15 to 17, as well as to local industry stakeholders. The event aimed to deepen understanding of Japanese products and to further promote Japan–U.S. exchange.

At the venue, sushi and wagyu dishes prepared using Japanese products were served by Chef Toru Ohga—appointed in 2022 as a “Goodwill Ambassador to Promote Japanese Food” by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries—along with EBISUYA GROUP CEO Hideki Hiromoto and Consulate Chef Jumpei Asai. Additionally, 15 exhibitors showcased a wide variety of Japanese foods and beverages, including ramen, curry, bread, sake, and traditional sweets, allowing guests to experience the richness of Japanese culinary culture through tastings.

The Consulate will continue its efforts to promote the appeal of Japanese products and to strengthen regional exchange, thereby contributing to the further development of Japan–U.S. friendship and economic relations.
