The Handover Ceremony of the Foreign Minister’s Commendation for Dr. Tom Mason, President of ALLEX Foundation (Jan. 16, 2025)

On January 16th, Consul General Takahashi held the handover ceremony of the Foreign Minister’s Commendation for Dr. Tom Mason, President of ALLEX Foundation at the official residence.
Dr. Mason was awarded the Foreign Minister’s commendation in recognition of the outstanding contributions to promoting Japanese language education in the United States of America. Dr. Mason’s ALLEX Foundation has granted scholarships to more than 1000 Japanese students to study at US graduate schools and, also to work as Japanese language TAs (Teaching Assistants). Many alumni of this program have become Japanese teachers in the U.S. Dr. Mason is also the Executive Director of the U.S.-Japan Bridging Foundation. This Foundation provides American undergraduates students precious opportunities to study at Japanese colleges such as Waseda, Ritsumeikan, and Meiji University.
Consul General Takahashi also cerebrated Ms. Kazuko Suzuki Carlson, Senior Lecturer of Japanese of University of Vermont, for receiving the 2024 Outstanding Teacher Award, in the Post-Secondary Category, by the American Association of Teachers of Japanese.
