Consulate-General of Japan in Boston Cultural Events - Competitive Karuta

On Friday, January 24th, the Consulate held "Cultural & Innovative Fridays at CGJ Boston," where volunteers including Kyoko Hiromoto, 3rd Dan, of Boston Nakamaro-kai, introduced the history and appeal of karuta, as well as the profound rules of competitive karuta.
Participants also played karuta using cards with hiragana and romaji written on them.
It was a wonderful opportunity for each participant to experience the unique tension and strategy of competitive karuta and to experience its appeal.
