+ QUALIFICATIONS

Spouse and child of the multiple visit visa applicant (or visa holder) You must meet ALL of the following;

1. Your spouse (or parent) must apply for a multiple visit visa  for "business persons", "intellectuals and researchers", or "individuals with sufficient financial capability" (or must be a holder of valid visa of those)

2. You must be a citizen of the countries eligible to apply for the same visa with your spouse (or parent).

 
Spouse and child of a Japanese national You must meet ALL of the following;

1. You must have a travel record to Japan

2. You must live together with the Japanese spouse (or parent)

 
Spouse and child of those who stay in Japan longer than a year You must meet ALL of the following;

1. Your spouse (or parent) must be granted to stay in Japan for longer than a year with the resident status as such "Diplomat", "Official", "Professor", "Artist", "Religious activites", "Journalist", "Highly skilled professional", "Business manager", "Legal/Accounting services", "Medical services", "Researcher", "Instructor, Engineer/Specialist in humanities/International services", "Intra-company transferee", "Entertainer", or "Skilled labor".

[Child] 2. You must live together with your parent who is a spouse of the one mentioned in 1. above,

OR you must be a child who is a dependent of the one mentioned in 1. above.

3. You must have a travel record to Japan for the last three years.

4. You must be a citizen of countries that have the reciprocal arrangements with Japan.

○ The Consulate declines incomplete documents; additional documents may be requested during the course of application/examination.
Do NOT staple your application.
○ The Consulate will not make copies.
○ The letters and certificates must be original with hand written signatures. Electronic signatures are not acceptable.

on the applicant
The documents from No.1 to No.5 listed in "Documentation for Temporary Visitor Visa"
○ (A certificate of employment of the applicant (or spouse/parent) which states the following:)(if you work at an enterprise)
- salary
- position
- start date of your employment
A letter stating the reason of application for a multiple entry visa (including the intended length of future visits to Japan)
 
2 Documentation
on the kinship
○ A proof of kinship (Marriage/Birth certificate)
 
3 (When your spouse
(or parent) was alredy
granted the visa )
○ A copy of the primary visa holder's passport (ID page)

○ A copy of the valid multiple entry visa to Japan

 
 
4 ○ Additional documents may be requested during the course of application/examination as it is impossible to specify the exact form the evidence should take since applicants' circumstances vary greatly.
 
 

+ FOR A SPOUSE OF CHILD OF JAPANESE NATIONAL

 

1 Documentation
on the applicant

A letter stating the reason of application for a multiple entry visa (including the intended length of future visits to Japan)
 
2 Documentation
on the
Japanese
national
○ A copy of passport (ID page)

○ A proof of legal status in the U.S.

 
 
3 Documentation
on the kinship
○ Document(s) to prove that the applicant lives together with the Japanese national at the current address

○ A certified copy of the family register ("Koseki tohon/shohon" )

 
 
4 ○ Additional documents may be requested during the course of application/examination as it is impossible to specify the exact form the evidence should take since applicants' circumstances vary greatly.
 
 

+ FOR A SPOUSE OF CHILD OF THOSE WHO WERE GRANTED TO STAY IN JAPAN LONGER THAN A YEAR

○ A letter of reason for invitation*
(designated form (Japanese/English))
*The letter should state the reason of application for a multiple entry visa and the intended length of future visits to Japan

○ A copy of both sides of his/her valid Resident Card (the Alien Registration)
AND a copy of his/her passport (ID page)

○ A certificate of residency ("Juminhyo")

 
 
4 Documentation
on the kinship
○ A proof of kinship (Marriage/Birth certificate)

[Child] ○ Document(s) to prove that the applicant lives together with the parent who is a spouse of the one in Japan mentioned at "Qualifications" above

OR Document(s) to prove that the applicant is a dependent of  the parent in Japan mentioned at "Qualifications" above
