Researcher Information in the New England Region

The New England region, including Boston, is home to one of the world’s leading concentrations of research institutions in fields such as life sciences, biotechnology, AI, quantum science, and energy. Many Japanese researchers are working at the forefront of these fields.

At the Consulate-General of Japan in Boston, we believe that strengthening connections among researchers—both within the region and with Japan—is essential for deepening Japan–U.S. collaboration and, ultimately, for enhancing Japan’s national capabilities. With this in mind, we are compiling a list of Japanese Principal Investigators (PIs) who are active in New England. A PI (Principal Investigator) is the lead researcher responsible for overseeing a laboratory or research group at a university or research institution.

This list will be shared with relevant ministries, agencies, and universities in Japan. By supporting young people interested in pursuing research opportunities abroad and assisting Japanese universities seeking international research collaboration, the list aims to contribute to strengthening Japan’s foundational scientific and technological capabilities.

For PIs included in the list, we anticipate that stronger ties with Japan will enhance their ability to attract talented personnel and elevate the presence of Japanese researchers within their host institutions. The Consulate will also provide opportunities for Japan-related networking and exchange.

● Contacting Registered Researchers (PIs)
To contact individual researchers, please refer to the URLs provided in the rightmost column of the list.
When reaching out to a PI using the PI List as your point of reference, please include [PI List] in the subject line of your email.

If the PI List leads to new arrangements—such as hosting students from Japan, forming international joint research projects, or other concrete collaborations—please inform us. The continuation and expansion of this initiative rely on your feedback and on the accumulation of success stories arising from the list. We sincerely request your cooperation.

● For PIs in the New England Region Who Wish to Be Added to the List
If you are a Japanese researcher residing in the New England area and serving as a Principal Investigator (PI) at a university or research institution, and you would like to be included in this list, please contact us.
