Business Networking Seminar Kicks Off New Chapter in Japan-Rhode Island Relations

Consul General of Japan Michii hosted a trade and investment seminar at the Rhode Island State House on May 24. Newly appointed Honorary Consul General of Japan in Rhode Island Dr. William Farrell moderated the seminar. Applying experience as former Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan, Dr. Farrell led a discussion on how to strengthen Rhode Island’s business ties with Japanese and other international companies.

Participants in the talk included Rhode Island Lt. Governor Daniel McKee, Rhode Island Rep. Brian Patrick Kennedy, Newport Mayor Henry Winthrop, U.S. Naval War College President Jeffrey Harley, and former Senior Vice President of Toray Plastics America Mr. Shigeru Osada.

Dr. Farrell guided a lively exchange of ideas among the panelists and audience. While business relations took the spotlight, the discussion hit on a number of other key issues between the United States and Japan, such as political and military cooperation and the arts.

Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo issued a citation to commemorate the event.
