Event Report: Cultural Evening “Taiko” (October 5, 2026)
On October 5th, the Consulate-General of Japan in Boston hosted a Japanese cultural event, “Cultural Evening”, introducing participants to the traditional art of Taiko drumming. We were honored to welcome Mr. Stuart Paton, founder and president of Burlington Taiko as our guest performer and speaker.
Mr. Paton performed several Taiko pieces including "Bon Daiko" and "Isami Goma" and demonstrated the Shishimai (lion dance). He also shared insights into the history and growth of Taiko in the United States, explained how Burlington Taiko makes their own drums, and discussed the meaning and role of Taiko in Japanese culture.
Approximately 15 attendees gathered for the performance and actively participated in a Q&A session. Participants gained a deeper appreciation for Taiko's cultural significance and its role in fostering community and cultural exchange.
