Consul General Takahashi Plants Cherry Trees at the Official Residence to Commemorate U.S. 250th Anniversary (August 27, 2026)

On August 27, Consul General Takahashi hosted a cherry tree planting ceremony at the Official Residence to celebrate the 250th anniversary since the founding of the United States. This planting not only marks the historic milestone of the U.S. but also signifies a profound hope for the continued strengthening and deepening of the enduring friendship between Japan and the United States. The ceremony brought together experts and distinguished guests from various fields who jointly participated in planting the cherry tree, a symbolic representation of US-Japan friendship. Key participants included: Dr. William (Ned) Friedman, Director of the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University; Mr. Seiho Umeno, CEO of Umebachien Co., Ltd. in Kyoto; Dr. Yoko Kawai, Lecturer at the Yale School of Architecture; Mr. Takaya Kurimoto, Landscape Architect; and Mr. Shin Abe and Mrs. Maho Abe, Co-Founders of ZEN Associates.
