On June 1st, the Consul General Seiichiro Takahashi hosted a celebratory reception in honor of Prof. Cynthia Dwork, Gordon McKay Professor of Computer Science at Harvard University for her 2026 Japan Prize award at his official residence. The reception also served to commemorate ”Innovation Spotlight: Japan”, an event held at the Museum of Science, Boston on May 31st where Prof. Dwork delivered a commemorative lecture. “Innovation Spotlight: Japan” was the first event themed on Japanese science, technology, and innovation.

The Japan Prize is a prestigious international award in science and technology, established in 1981 through private-sector donations in response to the Japanese government’s vision of creating a prize that would contribute to the advancement of global science and technology. It is awarded to scientists and engineers around the world who have made original and groundbreaking achievements, significantly contributed to the advancement of science and technology, and are recognized for their remarkable contributions to human peace and prosperity.  Since the second Japan Prize award ceremony in 1986, a total of twelve researchers based in this region, including Prof. Dwork, have been honored with the award.

Over 80 guests, including researchers, business representatives, and government officials active in the fields of innovation and science and technology across the New England region, gathered at this reception to celebrate Prof. Dwork’s award. Building on the J-NEXUS platform, the Consulate General of Japan in Boston will continue to work closely with partners to further strengthen Japan–U.S. relations in this region, fostering a more robust, dynamic, and resilient long-term partnership enriched with creativity and collaboration.
