Consul General Takahashi Attends Opening Ceremony of “Manjiro Hanami” (May 3, 2026)

On May 3, Consul General Takahashi attended and delivered remarks at the opening ceremony of the “Manjiro Hanami” (Cherry Blossom Festival), held at the Whitfield-Manjiro House in Fairhaven, Massachusetts.
In his speech, the Consul General highlighted the sister city relationship with Tosashimizu City and noted the selection of John Manjiro as the subject of NHK’s 2028 historical drama. He expressed his hope for further strengthening of relations between Japan and Fairhaven/New Bedford. He also extended his gratitude to President Gerald Rooney Whitfield of the Manjiro Friendship Society for organizing the event and for maintaining the Manjiro Trail in Fairhaven and New Bedford.
Along with Consul General Takahashi, Massachusetts State Representative Mark Sylvia and Fairhaven Select Board Member Charlie Murphy also attended the opening ceremony.
