Consul General Takahashi’s Visit to Town of Amherst, MA (March 20, 2026)

On March 20, Consul General Takahashi visited the Town of Amherst, MA. Amherst is the sister city of Kanegasaki, Iwate Prefecture.
During his visit, Consul General Takahashi met with officials from the Town, including Town Manager Paul Bockelman and Town Council President Mandi Hanneke, at Town Hall to exchange views.
Consul General Takahashi also visited the Jones Library—the sister library of the Kanegasaki Town Library—and the Emily Dickinson Museum. The Kanegasaki Town Library houses the Emily Dickinson Center, which collects and exhibits materials related to the renowned poet from Amherst.
Additionally, Consul General Takahashi visited Amherst College, where Jo Neesima, the founder of Doshisha University, and Kanzo Uchimura, the founder of the Nonchurch Movement (Mukyōkai) of Christianity, graduated as two of the earliest Japanese students of the College.
