Applications for Asia-Kakehashi Project + (Plus) is now open.
This project invites high school students in Asia and G7 member countries to study in Japan for 5 months.
Participants attend Japanese high schools while staying in dormitory or with host families.
ASIA KAKEHASHI Project + 2026
■ Duration: August 2026 - December 2026 Note: The schedule is subject to change.
■ Content: Japanese high school experiences with dormitory-stay or homestay
■ Fee: Full scholarship sponsored by the Japanese Government
■ Prospective Number of Participants: 100
■ Support: All participants will be supported by AFS Japan’s experienced local volunteers and professional staff during the program in Japan. Pre-program support will be provided by AFS/NGO under the AFS policies and guidelines.
■ Application: Application dates depend on the country the applicant is coming from. For details, please contact the organization listed below.
■ Eligibility criteria: Applicants to the program in 2026 must meet the following criteria:
A) Between 15 and 18 years of age, born after April 2, 2008, and before April 1, 2011;
B) Citizen of one of the countries/regions listed in the list on call for application paper at the time of application;
C) Obtained minimum of 60% marks in principle in all subjects in the latest examination at school and overall minimum average of 60% marks in all subjects for the past two years;
D) Learners of Japanese. (For example, those who hold JLPT N5, can read hiragana and katakana, or can introduce themselves in Japanese at the time of application.) Participants for the Japanese speech contests are encouraged to apply and have priority for the selection,
E) Demonstrate strong potential of leadership to act as a bridge between the home country and Japan during and after the program; and
F) Not have participated in the ASIA KAKEHASHI program before.
G) Priority will be given to students of families with low incomes in case there are difficulties to select from the above A-F.
