September 16, 2025

On September 13th, Consul General TAKAHASHI Seiichiro hosted a reception at his residence for U.S. Navy personnel formerly stationed in Japan, currently affiliated with the U.S. Naval War College and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, along with their family members. The reception welcomed approximately 90 guests, including regional experts, officials from the Ministry of Defense and the Japan Self-Defense Forces, and other distinguished guests.
This year marks the 120th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Portsmouth, the peace treaty that concluded the Russo-Japanese War, signed on September 5, 1905, at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. In honor of this anniversary, a brief lecture on the treaty was held during the event.
Guests reaffirmed the importance of Japan–U.S. relations and the Japan–U.S. alliance, and deepened their friendships while enjoying Japanese food and sake and reflecting on fond memories from their time stationed in Japan.
