Raising of the Japanese National Flag (Hinomaru) at Boston City Hall Plaza and Mayor Michelle Wu’s Proclamation of “Japan National Day” (February 24, 2025)

On February 24th, the Japanese National Flag (Hinomaru) was raised at Boston City Hall Plaza to celebrate His Majesty the Emperor of Japan’s birthday on February 23rd. About 100 people attended the event, including Consul General Takahashi, Deputy Director of Global Affairs & Protocol James Reginald Colimon from the City of Boston, Massachusetts State Representative Amy Mah Sangiolo, Chairman of the Board of the Japan Society of Boston William W. Hunt, other U.S.-Japan officials, consular officials, and members of the general public. After sunset, Boston City Hall was illuminated in the red and white colors of the Japanese National Flag.
On this occasion, Mayor Michelle Wu issued a proclamation designating February 23, 2025, as “Japan National Day”.
