Deputy Consul General Minoya Attends the 41st Black Ships Festival

On August 16th and 17th, Deputy Consul General Minoya attended and delivered remarks at the Opening Ceremony (Aug. 16th) and Gala (Aug. 17th) of the 41st Black Ships Festival, organized by the Japan-America Society of Rhode Island. This festival commemorates the achievements of Commodore Matthew Perry, who led the Black Ships fleet to Uraga at the end of the Edo period. Held annually over three days at multiple venues including Newport, RI, where Commodore Perry was born, and the nearby city of Bristol. This year, the festival once again focused on introducing Japanese culture, where the Consulate-General also participated, with attendees enjoying various cultural activities such as taiko-drumming, karate, and Japanese tea ceremony.
