Honorary Consul in Bristol, Rhode Island

On July 1st, 2024, Foreign Minister Kamikawa appointed Mr. Steve Aveson as Honorary Consul of Japan in Bristol, Rhode Island.
Mr. Aveson grew up in San Francisco near Japantown, where he developed an interest in Japan from a young age. In later years, he served as a television newscaster and reporter for a long time, and even had the opportunity to be a national correspondent for ABC Television during the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics, thus creating a connection with Japan in his career. In recent years, he served as the Vice President of the Japan-America Society of Rhode Island (JASRI) for six years, making a significant contribution to the promotion of Japan-U.S. exchange activities in Rhode Island. Currently, he supports the activities of JASRI as its Vice President Emeritus.
