Consul General Suzuki Speaks at Japan Society of Boston Gala

On April 16th, Consul General Suzuki attended the annual gala of the Japan Society of Boston and made remarks. This gala celebrated the 120th anniversary of the Boston Japan Society since its founding, and the 65th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Kyoto and Boston. This year, the Japan Society of Boston awarded the Distinguished Professional and Cultural Achievement Award to three individuals: Mr. Masataka Hata, President of Kyoto’s renowned incense company, Shoyeido, Mr. Ernest Higa, CEO of Higa Industries and Wendy’s Japan, and Dr. Shinya Yamanaka, President of the CiRA Foundation, Kyoto University. Additionally, the 2023 Thayer Award was presented to Ms. Akemi Chayama, Japan Program Manager at the Boston Children’s Museum, and the Next Generation Distinguished Cultural Achievement Award was given to violinist Ms. Keila Wakao. The gala featured performances by the Kitanodai Gagaku Ensemble and a rakugo (traditional Japanese comedic storytelling) performance by Mr. Sanji Katsura (Sunshine), making it a grand and memorable event.
