Dr. Ronald Provost Decorated by Japanese Government

Press Release                                                                                   Nov. 7, 2014

On Nov. 3, Culture Day in Japan, the Japanese Government announced its Fall Honors List.  Included among the foreign nationals receiving these high decorations was former President of Showa Women’s Institute Boston, Dr. Ronald H. Provost.

After becoming President of Showa Women’s Institute in 1992 and until retiring this year, Dr. Provost poured all his energies into developing the school’s academic programs.  Given his understanding of Japan based on nearly 85 visits there, Dr. Provost encouraged Showa students to make contributions to the Boston community by finding ways for them to introduce Japanese culture.  In 2009, in order to strengthen relations between Showa students and area educational institutions, he established a partnership between the Colleges of the Fenway Consortium and the Consortium of Universities in Kyoto.

With his amiable personality, Dr. Provost gained the trust and affection of the students who come from their mother school in Japan, Showa Women’s University, to study in Boston.  He has also always had the full support of his faculty and staff in working toward achieving his goals over the course of his tenure.

In light of his significant contributions, the Japanese government has deemed it appropriate to bestow this high award on Dr. Provost.
