Overseas Atomic Bomb Survivors
Procedures for Applying to Receive Allowances and Funeral Assistance from Outside of Japan
As of November 30, 2005, atomic bomb survivors (meaning persons who have an Atomic Bomb Survivor’s Certificate) living overseas can apply to receive allowances without visiting Japan.
The same applies to applications for funeral assistance when atomic bomb survivors pass away.
- Allowances covered
It is now possible to apply to receive allowances, etc., from overseas. The allowances covered include the health management allowance, health allowance, special medical care allowance, medical care allowance, atomic bomb microcephaly allowance, and funeral allowance.
Applications fro funeral assistance can also be made fro atomic bomb survivors who have died outside of Japan during the past 5 years.
- Acceptance of Applications
Applications are accepted at the Japanese Consulate in your area. (If there is no Japanese Consulate in your area, the Japanese Embassy will handle the procedures. In Taiwan, the Interchange Association, Japan will accept the application. These bodies are hereinafter referred to as “Japanese Consulate, etc.”).
In principle, applicants should apply at the Japanese Consulate, etc., in person for identification purposes, but in unavoidable circumstances it is possible for a prozy to apply. (Applicants by mail are not accepted.)
