Teaches two years of Japanese language and offers a one-semester course on the history of Japan and another on Contemporary Japan (1945 to the present). In addition, there is an undergraduate minor in Japanese Studies and a one-semester course in the MBA Program entitled "Japan: Growth of a World Economic Power."

Boston College, through its Slavic and Eastern Languages Department, offers an interdisciplinary minor in East Asian Studies for undergraduates.

The requirements for this program are as follows:

  1. An introductory course, usually Far Eastern Civilizations.
  2. One course in Asian history, political structure, or diplomacy.
  3. Two courses in an Asian language beyond the elementary level.
  4. Two approved electives in Asian Studies from related areas such as Art History, Philosophy, Theology, Political Science, Literature, or a second Asian language. One of these electives may be a directed senior research paper on an approved topic.

This university offers an interdisciplinary East Asian Studies Program, under the aegis of its Department of History, which seeks to give the student a broad, yet intimate, knowledge of the history, politics, economics, art, and language of the major areas of East Asia. The crux of the program is its language requirement, and  target students are those who plan to go on to postgraduate study or careers dealing with East Asia.

Bridgewater State offers nearly a dozen courses in the Japanese language and East Asian arts, culture, history, sport and physical education, and theater, as well as sponsoring a lecture series and an audio-visual resource center.

Clark University offers an interdisciplinary undergraduate concentration in Asian Studies. This concentration, which may be taken to complement any major, consists of six Asian Studies courses, at least four of which must be non-language courses, including several introductory offerings and a seminar or independent research project. Students in the program who are focusing on Japan are encouraged to enroll for a year or a semester at Kansai University of Foreign Studies. Clark offers Japanese language at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced level. In addition, students may also take Asia-related courses at the nearby College of the Holy Cross.

The university offers an undergraduate degree program with a concentration on East Asian Studies. The requirements are two years of Japanese (or Chinese) and seven additional semester courses on East Asia. Several performances highlighting East Asian music and dance are given annually, and the university's art collection includes several hundred Edo and Meiji period woodblock prints.
